What you get
- Text in the chatCopy it wherever you need it. Keep chatting to adjust the tone, length, or wording.
How it works
- Describe the feature, the problem, the user request, or even a vague idea, with whatever context you already have.
- askROI's Write a product spec tool asks a few questions at a time about the user problem, target users, success metrics, constraints, and prior attempts, then writes the PRD with every standard section.
- Copy the PRD into your docs, or keep chatting to adjust a section, expand the requirements, or ask for a follow-up such as a design brief, an engineering ticket breakdown, or a stakeholder pitch.
What people use it for
- New featuresgo from a one-line idea to a spec engineering and design can estimate.
- Customer requeststurn repeated asks from sales or support into a scoped requirement set.
- Problems without a solution yetframe the problem and goals before anyone commits to a design.
- Scope controlagree on non-goals and P0 requirements before the build starts.
- Big initiativessplit an idea that is too large into phases and spec the first one.
Questions
- What sections does the PRD include?
- A problem statement, three to five measurable goals, three to five non-goals with the reason each is out of scope, user stories grouped by persona, requirements marked must-have (P0), nice-to-have (P1), and future (P2) with acceptance criteria, leading and lagging success metrics with targets, open questions tagged with who should answer them, and timeline considerations.
- Does it ask questions first?
- Yes, conversationally and a few at a time, starting with the most important: what problem this solves and for whom, which users it serves, how you will know it worked, the constraints, and whether it has been tried before. The more you include in your first message, the fewer it needs to ask.
- How are acceptance criteria written?
- In Given, When, Then form or as a checklist, covering the happy path, error cases, edge cases, and what should not happen, with each criterion testable on its own.
- How is this different from the AI Stakeholder Update Generator?
- The PRD defines what to build before the work starts. The stakeholder update reports on progress, launches, and decisions to a specific audience once the work is under way.
- What does it not do?
- It does not design screens, write code, or create tickets in your tracker; it can write an engineering ticket breakdown as text for you to copy. It keeps the spec opinionated about scope, so expect it to push back on a long list of must-haves.
